About the event

Nothing beats a home-cooked meal shared with family! And this is what inspires our Family Style Cooking Classes, a fun, laid-back homestyle cooking experience. Here you will learn to prepare different dishes and then enjoy them with people who, like you, fuel our mission of this program to support seniors in our community and promote entrepreneurship.

Your class will be led by our wonderful Chef Kamla from Trinidad and Tobago at the Joywave, located in downtown Windsor.

At our Family Style Cooking Classes, you’ll be grouped with other participants and prepare dishes together as a team. Think of Chef Kamla as the head of the family! She will take care of dividing the class into groups, and each group will be responsible for creating one or more of the dishes. Of course, you are welcomed and encouraged to move around during the class to learn from others and connect with each other. Throughout the evening, Kamla will share stories and memories about their food and culture, and explain how to prepare each of the dishes so you can come away with some new cooking tricks and inspiration from Trinidad and Tobago. You will also be emailed the recipes after the class.

Menu, subject to change:

  • Trini Chicken Pelau | Meat (Chicken); Coconut

  • Green Seasoning | Vegan

  • Trini Green Salad | Vegan

  • Signature Cocktail | Contains Alcohol (optional); Citrus

We acknowledge that we are on land originally inhabited by indigenous peoples that have traveled this area since time immemorial. We recognize the traditional territory of the three fires confederacy (Ojibwe, Odawa, Potawatomi, and Huron/Wendat) peoples. We are grateful to live and work on this land and are dedicated to respecting indigenous peoples, history, and culture.
